Job Summary
We're looking for a full-time, staff Chemical Manufacturing Engineer to join our Day & Zimmermann team located in Texarkana, Texas. In this role, you will support production operations by developing, improving, and sustaining manufacturing processes used in the production of munitions and energetic materials. This position applies chemical engineering principles to ensure that processes are safe, compliant, efficient, and cost‑effective. You will work closely with production, safety, quality, and maintenance teams to drive operational excellence and support the mission of delivering reliable products to our customers.
Responsibilities- Provide daily technical support to production, troubleshooting process and equipment issues while supporting new product introductions and scale‑ups
- Analyze production data to identify root causes of inefficiencies and implement corrective actions to enhance equipment performance and reduce downtime
- Prepare and maintain process documentation, including SOPs, work instructions, and validation records
- Develop, implement, and optimize chemical and mechanical manufacturing processes for munitions production
- Develop and optimize process parameters in batching and slurry dilution processes to ensure good chemical bonding, adjusting parameters based upon raw materials delivered to ensure proper stabilizer concentrations
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, ATF, DoD, and Day & Zimmermann safety standards through participation in PSM, HAZOP, and risk assessments
- Participate in Process Safety Management (PSM), HAZOP, and risk assessments related to energetic and hazardous materials
- Lead or support Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma initiatives to improve quality, efficiency, and throughput
- Evaluate and implement new technologies or automation solutions to enhance safety, reliability, and productivity
- Strong foundation in chemical process design, thermodynamics, and reaction engineering
- Experience with chemical batching, coating and colorant process, felting and molding operations; waste water treatment system experience is preferred
- Working knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, SPC, and root cause analysis
- Familiarity with DoD, ATF, and EPA regulatory requirements related to energetic materials
- Proficiency with process modeling and analysis software (e.g., Minitab, MATLAB, AutoCAD, or equivalent)
- Excellent communication, analytical, and teamwork skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects and work cross‑functionally in a manufacturing environment
- • Bachelor's degree in arts/sciences (BA/BS) in Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field – required
- • Master's degree in arts/sciences (MA/MS) – preferred
- • 3+ years of experience in chemical or process engineering, preferably in munitions, defense, or energetic materials manufacturing – required
- • 1+ year of experience with explosives, propellants, pyrotechnics, or hazardous chemical handling is highly desired

In compliance with this state's pay transparency laws, the wage range for this role is $76,000 to $114,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary; the final offer may vary based on experience and geographic location.
