Housing Specialist

Position Overview

The Ark‑Tex Council of Governments (ATCOG) is hiring a Housing Specialist (Announcement #2607). This full‑time position is located in the Texarkana, Texas, Housing Program office and requires travel throughout the region.

• Provide Section 8 rental assistance to eligible applicants.
• Offer housing counseling and social service referrals.
• Work within a designated outreach area of the ATCOG region.
• Maintain effective working relationships with co‑workers, supervisors and the general public.
• Work in a fast‑paced environment and independently when necessary.

• Bachelor’s degree in business, public administration or related field.
• Or high school diploma or equivalent plus four years of experience in public housing assistance or other social services programs.
• Or an equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides required knowledge, skills and abilities.

• Knowledge of general office equipment and PC usage in a Windows‑based environment.
• Knowledge of public housing rules and regulations (preferred).
• Project‑based voucher experience (preferred).
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships, communicate effectively, and follow instructions.
• Ability to work in a team and independently.
• Organized, detail‑oriented, and proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
• Physical ability to see, hear, reach, stoop, bend, and lift up to 30 pounds.
• Must possess a valid motor vehicle operator’s license and reliable transportation for regional travel.
