GENERAL PURPOSE

Assists the Municipal Court staff in the performance of routine clerical duties.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Works under the general supervision of the Senior Deputy Court Clerk.

SAFETY SENSITIVE DESIGNATION

This position is not designed as a safety sensitive position and is not subject to random drug screening.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
  • Processes filing, answers phones, and responds to questions from the public, attorneys, various law enforcement agencies and other courts.
  • Issues warrants and capias pro-fine warrants.
  • Prepares signed warrants to go to records along with a warrant list.
  • Servies as a backup on preparing the daily deposits.
  • Prepares and mails out courtesy letters to defendants.
  • Enters citations, warnings and complaints as needed.
  • Dismiss and print judgments for probation and defensive driving files.
  • Types and mails show cause letters as well as letters citing defendants to court.
PERIPHERAL DUTIES

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • Graduation from high school or GED equivalent
  • Six to twelve months related experience or training in municipal court
  • One (1) year of business office environment experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Ability to compose correspondence on routine matters with little to no errors
  • Ability to complete required reports with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the public
  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Skilled in reading comprehension and interpreting legal terminology
  • Skilled in the operation of listed tools and equipment
  • Ability to handle large sums of money responsibly and competently
  • Ability to type twenty-four (24) wpm with a high degree of accuracy

Office business machines and equipment including personal computer, calculator, phone, copier, and fax machine, debit/credit card machine

  • The City of Texarkana, Texas provides three weeks of paid vacation and three weeks of paid sick leave per year as well as 13 paid holidays per year.
  • Retirement benefits are through the Texas Municipal Retirement System with the City contributing at a rate of 2 to 1 and the employee contributing 7% each paycheck to TMRS. Employees are vested after five years and may retire after either twenty years of service at any age or at age 60 as long as they are vested.
  • Retirement benefits for the Fire Department are paid through the Firemen's Relief and Pension Fund and employees are eligible to retire after twenty years of employment.
  • A voluntary 457 deferred compensation program through Mission Square is also offered to all City employees.
  • The City of Texarkana, Texas provides health, dental, and vision insurance to its employees at a minimal cost. Life insurance equal to one times your annual salary is offered at no cost to the employee with supplemental life and dependent life insurance also available but is paid by the employee. Insurance becomes effective the first of the month following thirty days of employment.
