Essential Responsibilities

Repair machinery, mechanical or electrical equipment. Examine machines and mechanical equipment to diagnose source of trouble. Dismantle or partly dismantle machines, perform repairs mainly involving hand tools in scraping and fitting parts. Replace broken or defective parts, order replacements by a machine shop, send machines to a shop for major repairs, and prepare written specifications for major repairs or parts ordered from machine shops.

Reassemble machines and make all necessary adjustments for operation, converse with equipment operators to ascertain problems before breakdown, determine if breakdown is due to human error or mechanical problems. Test faulty equipment and use knowledge of functional operation of electronic units and systems to diagnose cause of malfunction. Test electronic components and circuits to locate defects, replace defective components and wiring, adjust mechanical parts, align, adjust, and calibrate equipment according to specifications, calibrate testing instruments, maintain records of repairs, calibrations, and tests, enter information into computer to copy program from one electronic component to another, or to draw, modify, or store schematics.

Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, process sheets, assembly and schematic drawings, and receive verbal instructions regarding work assignment. Align and assemble parts such as leads, coils, wires, tabs, and terminals into housing. Route and lace cables, install components and parts such as switches, coils, transformers, relays, transistors, and semiconductor circuits on chassis, circuit boards, panels, and other units. Route and attach wires and connectors to form circuitry, connect assembly to power supply sources, switch panels, or junction boxes, attach hardware and seal assembly.

Examine parts for defects such as pinholes or chips, test operations to locate defects, measure performance, determine need for adjustment, and verify specified operation. Replace defective components and wiring, calibrate units according to specifications, enter information on production records, logs, and other report forms, and repair defective units rejected by inspection or test personnel.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands

Shop environment. Mechanical equipment is operated in a loud and noisy setting, with some equipment having exposed moving components. Must stand and bend for long periods, push and test tractors and heavy objects, and lift up to 50 pounds. Must be able to handle, grasp, kneel and carry regularly, and maintain visual and mental alertness. Occasional use of safety glasses and hearing protection required.

Minimum Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Journeyman Electrician License.
  • Three years’ experience working on industrial equipment and/or three years doing metal fabrication.
  • Be able to obtain and retain a forklift operator’s license.
  • Valid state‑issued driver’s license.
  • Passing a pre‑employment drug screen and a government background check is required.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Must be available to work any shift, and willing to work weekends and other hours as needed.
