Step Two Apprentices will be introduced to energized secondary work, de‑energized primary framing, and bucket truck operation. Apprentices may perform energized secondary work (up to 480 V) while being directly supervised by a lineman or foreman who must be at the same physical location. Apprentices must not be within the minimum approach distance of any energized primary conductor or equipment while working aloft.

- Proper use of aerial lifts (bucket truck)
- Basic aerial lift operation

- Phasing or paralleling secondary circuits
- Taking voltage, amperage, or resistance readings on secondary circuits
- Tying/attaching conductors to insulators on de‑energized circuits
- Sagging secondaries and services
- Dead‑ending and clipping services and secondary conductors
- Assisting lineman with de‑energized transformer connections
- Work from pole or bucket
- Test de‑energized primary lines, tag, and apply protective grounds
- De‑energized primary framing and hardware installation
- Hanging crossarms from the pole de‑energized circuits
- Drilling and fastening with impact (hydraulic) tools
- Using hand‑powered crimping tools
