Heat-Ventilation AC Mechanic

Job Summary

The Heating, Ventilation, and Air‑Conditioning Mechanic installs, services and repairs environmental‑control systems in residences, department stores, office buildings, and other commercial establishments. Responsibilities include using refrigeration theory, pipe‑fitting, mounting compressor and condenser units, fabricating ductwork, and installing evaporator units.

• Cut and bend tubing to correct length and shape using cutting and bending equipment.
• Thread pipe using machine‑threading or hand‑threading equipment.
• Join tubing or pipes to refrigerating units with sleeves, couplings or unions, and solder joints with a torch.
• Form complete refrigerant circuits, install expansion and discharge valves.
• Connect motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, circulation fans to control panels and power sources.
• Install air and water filters, inject refrigerant, and add Freon to reach operating pressure.
• Observe pressure and vacuum gauges, adjust controls, test for leaks with soap‑and‑water solution.
• Wrap pipes in insulation batting and secure with cement or wire bands.
• Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring.
• May install, repair and service air conditioners ranging from fifteen to twenty tons cooling capacity.

Shop environment with loud machinery and exposed moving components. Must be able to stand, bend, push, and lift up to 50 pounds. Requires use of vision and mental alertness. Safety glasses and hearing protection may be required.

All employees are responsible for maintaining a safe work environment, completing required training, and participating in safety committees. Employees must comply with the quality policy, customer contracts, and all operational, safety, quality, and environmental requirements.

• High school diploma or equivalent and minimum 3 years of experience.
• EPA Freon Recovery license.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain facility credentials.
• US citizenship required for facility credentials at this work location.
• Knowledge of refrigeration and air‑conditioning principles, ability to weld, braze, solder.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work orders, inspection reports, specifications.
• Ability to calculate airflow, pressure, temperature characteristics for various systems.
• Pass a pre‑employment drug screen and government background check.
• Read, write, and speak English.
• Broad knowledge of general math and other disciplines.

Hourly rate: $22.80 (estimate; actual compensation may vary).
