Overview
The City of Texarkana seeks a Maintenance Operative responsible for the maintenance of city property and equipment, operating light duty construction equipment for public works projects and demolition, and ensuring safe operation of related equipment.
Responsibilities- Operate a dump truck to transport supplies or materials.
- Operate three or more pieces of light duty equipment such as small motor grader, small dozer, backhoe, roller, bush-hog mowers, front-end loader, haul-type truck, or other light duty construction, maintenance and demolition equipment.
- Operate equipment for ditching, leveling, smoothing, hauling, dumping, and spreading of material.
- Instruct and train assigned workers on equipment use, perform regular servicing of equipment, and report repair needs.
- Make routine repairs and adjustments on equipment.
- Perform strenuous manual labor as required, including pickup of trash/debris and storm cleanup of trees and limbs.
- Prepare for inclement weather conditions.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or Foreman.
- Three (3) years of construction work experience, including concrete finishing and safe operation of light construction and maintenance equipment.
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and write.
- Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair activities.
- Working knowledge of practices, methods, materials, and tools used in modern equipment maintenance.
- Ability to set grades with a line level.
- Ability to maintain effective preventive maintenance programs.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
- Skill in the operation of listed tools and equipment such as concrete saw, dump truck, backhoe, leveling instruments, line level, transit level, and various light-duty construction equipment.
- Possession of a valid Class A (preferred) or Class B Commercial Driver’s License with no restrictions.
Frequent lifting and/or moving of loads up to 25 pounds, occasional lifting of loads up to 100 pounds. Requires hand-eye coordination, ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and use hands to operate tools and controls.
Work EnvironmentOutdoor work near moving mechanical parts and varying weather conditions. Occasionally exposed to wet, humid conditions, fumes, toxic or caustic chemicals. Noise levels moderately high.
