Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Up to 90% travel required. The Motor Equipment Metal Mechanic (Motor Vehicle Body Repairer) repairs damaged bodies and body parts of automotive vehicles, such as automobiles, buses, and light trucks according to repair manuals and uses hand tools, power tools, and welding equipment to remove upholstery, accessories, electrical and hydraulic components to gain access to vehicle body and fender. The mechanic removes damaged fenders, panels, and grills, welds replacement parts, straightens bent frames, files, grinds, sands, and refines repaired surfaces using power tools and hand tools.
He or she finishes the repairs with painting, alignment of wheels, bleed of brake system, and may perform final painting.
- Performs journeyman welding in maintenance and repair shops on parts and bodies for mobile industrial equipment.
- Plans, lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and repairs metal body parts necessary to recondition and modify mobile and non-mobile equipment.
- Modifies body parts and installs items required by various Maintenance Work Order Requests, such as cabs, cowls, aprons, doors, bodies, hoods, and frames.
- Provides coordination, on‑job assistance, and limited technical direction to employees performing similar work.
- Plans and schedules work from authorized work orders and performs quality assurance and quality control functions in process and upon completion.
- Performs routine and non‑routine troubleshooting, problem identification, and resolution.
- Responds to various types of emergencies and provides assistance as appropriate based on skills, knowledge, and ability.
- Performs all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
- High school diploma or GED with specific training and thorough knowledge in facility maintenance and a broad knowledge of other disciplines such as general math.
- Minimum of five (5) years documented, verifiable work experience in the metal mechanic field.
- Pre‑employment test of structural welding abilities based on customer requirements, prints, and materials used.
- Good written and spoken communication and analytical skills and working knowledge of basic computer systems and software programs.
- Valid and current state driver’s license.
- Ability to read and use technical manuals.
- Ability to complete paperwork associated with vehicle maintenance and repairs.
- Ability to manipulate hand tools and hydraulic equipment.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Must speak, read, write, and understand English.
- Passing a pre‑employment drug screen and a government background check is required.
- Must obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
- Must successfully pass a National Agency Check (NAC) within 60 days of hire if required.
- Available for any shift and willing to work weekends and other hours as needed.
$32.50–$41.00 per hour (based on experience) plus travel per diem and paid travel costs.
