Job Summary
The Mine Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating a variety of equipment (mainly bulldozer and excavator) used in construction, maintenance, and excavation.
Responsibilities- Operate heavy equipment of various sizes and weights used in excavation and site construction.
- Properly follow company safety procedures and bring problems to the attention of the foreman, superintendent, safety director, or HR manager.
- Perform routine inspection and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment, refer defects or needed repairs to the supervisor, and clean equipment.
- Apply knowledge of moisture condition, cut grade, and ability to load trucks; understand cutting and filling grade.
- Prefer knowledge of GPS.
- At least 3-5 years recent experience in construction as a heavy equipment operator.
- Experience operating bulldozers and excavators.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational, attention to detail, time management, analytical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate.
- Friendly disposition, personable and professional.
- Works independently and as part of a team.
- Recognizes and maintains confidentiality in accordance with standard procedures.
- High School diploma or equivalent (preferred).
- Bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, sitting, standing, walking, stooping, squatting, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, seeing, and standing for long periods of time.
- The essential duties require moderate to heavy lifting and carrying.
- Prolonged periods of sitting on a forklift or other warehouse equipment.
- Exposure to moderate noise levels, vibrations, bright lights, dust, fumes, gases, and all climate types including hot and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, etc.
- Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, breathing protection, and hard hats when needed.
- Able to work under stressful conditions at times.
- React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
- Must be able to move and lift to 40-pound wooden skid or pallet.
- Ability to travel throughout facility as required to conduct safety inspections.
- Must be able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
- Must complete tasks even with frequent interruptions.
- Must use discretion and independent judgment as needed.
- Must speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
