Class Summary
The Student Help Center Specialist serves as a front-line resource, providing customer service and direct support to staff, community members, prospective and current students. This position also performs college administrative and clerical activities when needed, and provides supervision to part-time Student Help Center staff.

Associates degree and Two (2) Years of customer service experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Preferred Education/Training/
Experience:
Associates degree and experience working in a higher education setting.
- The use of specified computer applications involving the management of databases or spreadsheet files and the development of special report formats;
- Complex or technical office practices and procedures; record keeping practices;
- Applicable regulations, policies and statutes;
- Making accurate arithmetic calculations;
- Performing technical, specialized, complex, difficult or basic technical office support work;
- Operating standard office equipment; reading and explaining rules, policies and procedures;
- Compiling and summarizing information and preparing periodic or special reports;
- Organizing own work, setting priorities and meeting critical deadlines;
- Communication, interpersonal skills as related to interaction with students, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.

Job Duties- Provides excellent customer service by welcoming visitors and prospective students to COM.
- Assist students with FAFSA, Apply Texas application, Navigate, and other college related forms and software.
- Triaging students at the Welcome Desk to determine where they are in the Admission to COM Onboarding process.
- Assisting students and the community with college program information, relating information about campus events, and directions to buildings on campus.
- Interact with students through phone, email, text, and virtual communication addressing their questions and concerns during the Onboarding process.
- Provides supervision and scheduling of Student Help Center staff.
- Maintains and regularly updates the Student Help Center training and triage manual to ensure staff have current, accurate guidance on admissions, enrollment, onboarding, and referral processes; assists with onboarding and ongoing training of staff to ensure consistent application of enrollment procedures.
- Enters, edits and retrieves data and prepares periodic or special reports, using a computer system and following established formats and menus.
- Assists the Enrollment Management Coordinator, in innovative communication strategies, to reach out to prospective students and keeping students informed and connected to COM
- Plans and coordinates campus tours for prospective students.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
