Position: PT - Student Help Center Assistant

Role Overview

Student Help Center Assistant I & II provides information on the admissions process, registering, creating a semester schedule, financial aid, and connects students to other support services. They also greet community members and assist with campus event directions.

Eligibility
  • Internal / External applicants are eligible.
Responsibilities
  • Provide excellent customer service by welcoming visitors, answering questions, and wearing a staff nametag and approved apparel.
  • Work with Admissions Specialists by contacting prospective students through texting and phone call campaigns.
  • Assist students with FAFSA, Apply Texas application, Navigate, and other college‑related forms and software.
  • Triage students to determine where they are in the admission onboarding process.
  • Check in/out students using the Who’s Next program.
  • Assist students and community with college program information.
  • Provide information about campus events and directions on campus.
  • Maintain an organized and clean environment.
  • Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED or be in good standing with the College of the Mainland regarding student conduct, academic standing, and financial accounts (Assistant I).
  • Associate degree required (Assistant II).
  • One year of general clerical or office support experience preferred but not required.
  • Proficiency with specified computer applications (Datatel/Colleague, Microsoft Office), internet searches, office practices, record keeping, applicable regulations, policies, and statutes.
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities in a fast‑paced environment and make accurate arithmetic calculations.
  • Operation of standard office equipment; reading and explaining rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Organizing own work and setting priorities.
  • Excellent customer service skills, including communication and interpersonal skills with coworkers, supervisors, and the general public.

Physical Requirements

Typical requirements include stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, tapping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Medium work – exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for light work.

Salary
  • Minimum Salary: $9.00 per hour
  • Mid‑point Salary: $12.50 per hour
