Summary:

The instructor will teach courses in the Basic Peace Officer Academy that are within their area of subject matter expertise. This posting is for Instructors that will be primarily assigned to the College of The Mainland Basic Peace Officer Academy on the COM Main Campus.

Minimum Education /Training/

Experience:

Lead Instructor:
Associate's degree or higher in Law Enforcement or related field (Criminal Justice Administration, Criminology, Law Enforcement, Police Science, or Corrections) AND three (3) years industry-related work experience or Instructor Proficiency Certificates issued by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Assisting Instructor:
Three (3) years industry related experience or experience in area assisting Skills Testing: TCOLE license or industry experience in the related skill

Preferred Education/Training/

Experience:

TCOLE Licensed Basic, Intermediate, Advanced or Master Peace Officer Certificate; or holds an advanced degree in any field and two years of applicable experience. It is recommended that each adjunct instructor hold a license, a certification or some other documentation that indicates expertise, i.e. knowledge and skills, in a specialized area/topic of instruction as required by TCOLE.

Minimum Knowledge &

Skills:

Experience with teaching or training delivery
- Police service related knowledge and experience
- Detailed knowledge of material being taught in the various courses of instruction offered
- Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to the interactions with students, coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc. to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work place direction.

- Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, as well as intermediate computer skills.

- Must be familiar with interactive teaching methods and instruction via the Internet.

Job Duties:

Instruct and supervise a diverse population of students in the classroom at various times and locations. Collect, maintain and deliver student and course records to the Director of COM Law Enforcement Training Center. Possess a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence. Demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and oral. Prepare and utilize a course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution.

Maintain current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilizes a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources. Assess students' performance through a range of measurement activities and keeps them informed of their progress in a timely manner. Utilize technology to facilitate learning and to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate with others. Assist in the development, distribution and collection of assessments for courses and program objectives.

Build positive and professional relationship with students, colleagues, college administration, and the community. Submit timely class reports and grades to the Coordinator of Law Enforcement Training.…
