Professional tutors assist and coach College of the Mainland students and community members in becoming more successful and independent writers. Professional tutors help integrate effective learning and study strategies for their students, while at the same time helping to clarify and reinforce course content, assignments and material.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree in English Literature or Composition (or a Bachelor’s in Speech or Communication with relevant tutoring experience).
- Minimum of one year of tutoring or teaching experience at the collegiate level.
- Proficiency in MLA, APA, and Chicago citation styles.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency with MS Office (Word and PowerPoint).
- Ability to tutor students online using asynchronous and synchronous techniques.
- Ability to help students with speeches, resumes, and mock interviews.
- Strong organizational and data‑gathering skills, including record maintenance.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Collaboration and willingness to work in a team environment.
- Master’s degree in English Literature or Composition.
- Tutoring or teaching experience at a community college.
- Experience working with WC Online or other online tutoring platforms.
- Provide content and skill‑development tutoring to students individually or in small groups.
- Attend all classes as requested by instructors, complete assignments, and assist instructors as needed.
- Maintain and update tutoring schedule.
- Keep accurate, up‑to‑date records of tutoring sessions.
- Attend required tutor training and professional development sessions.
- Develop a good understanding of college services, supports, and resources.
- Make appropriate referrals to college offices, departments, or professionals as necessary.
- Collaborate with instructors to receive information on course topics.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all student information, materials, and discussions.
- Perform additional related job duties as required.
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. Work requires stooping, crouching, talking, seeing, hearing, repetitive motions, and sedentary work/sitting up to 50% of the time.
SalaryMinimum and mid‑point hourly rate: $16.25 per hour. Posting open until filled.
