Instructor Requirements

AAS or AA with fire technology/science and related training. Required certification:

  • TCFP Fire Instructor II
  • TCFP Firefighter Intermediate
  • TCFP Field Examiner for TCFP skills testing
  • Applicable TCFP certification to instruct TCFP courses for certifications

Assist instructor roles include:

  • TCFP Fire Instructor I
  • TCFP Firefighter Basic
  • TCFP Field Examiner for TCFP skills testing

SFFMA CE instructors require related fire service training, experience, and applicable SFFMA certification to instruct SFFMA courses.

Preferred Education / Training / Experience

N/A

Preferred Knowledge & Skills
  • Principles and practices of teaching
  • Fire service related knowledge and experience
  • Detailed knowledge of material being taught, including certification needed to instruct TCFP courses
  • Communication, interpersonal skills for interacting with students, coworkers, supervisors, public, etc.
  • Basic computer literacy sufficient to perform job duties
Physical Requirements

Positions require moderate to heavy physical activity: classroom instruction, outdoor physical instruction, use of fire service tools and equipment while wearing personal protective clothing and self‑contained breathing apparatus.
