Overview

College of the Mainland is seeking adjunct instructors who will play a key role in educating and supporting students in the EKG program.

Requirements
  • High School Diploma;
    Equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job; 3 years’ experience in the healthcare field related to the program intending to teach
  • Licensing and/or Certification as the healthcare program intends
  • Principles and practices of teaching
  • Detailed knowledge of material being taught in the program area
  • Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with students, coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction
Preferred Education / Training / Experience
  • Associate’s Degree or higher
  • Medical terminology, bedside manner, infection control, clinical skills and techniques, health promotion and maintenance, creating a safe, effective environment, lead placement
  • Knowledge of the theory, skills, and job duties of the healthcare program intending to teach; lab set up, clinical rotation, troubleshooting, and operation of related equipment
  • Basic computer literacy sufficient to perform job duties such as using Microsoft Office
  • Knowledge of student engagement techniques, learning styles, retention strategies, and learning-centered philosophy
  • Experience with or willingness to learn latest teaching/learning technologies
  • Record keeping procedures
  • Written and oral communication commensurate with position and level of education, and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with students, coworkers, supervisors, and the general public
Preferred Knowledge & Skills
  • Attention to detail – ensuring all instruments and equipment are properly cleaned, sterilized, and organized.
  • Knowledge of sterilization procedures – understanding the various methods and protocols for disinfection and sterilization.
  • Technical aptitude – ability to operate and troubleshoot sterilization equipment and technology.
  • Time management – efficiently managing tasks to meet surgical schedules.
  • Teamwork – working well with medical staff and colleagues in a fast-paced environment.
  • Physical stamina – standing for long periods and handling surgical tools and trays.
  • Strong communication skills – providing clear updates and documentation.
  • Relevant educational background in healthcare, biology, or microbiology.
Job Duties

Able to teach students the fundamentals of electrocardiography, including lead placement, cardiac anatomy, and equipment use. Responsibilities include delivering engaging lectures, supervising hands‑on training, and evaluating student competency to prepare them for certification. The ideal candidate will be organized, supportive, and committed to maintaining high instructional and clinical standards.

Licensing/Certification Requirements

Certified Electrographic Technician (CET)

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move around the classroom and lab for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting up to 25 pounds (e.g., moving equipment or supplies).
  • Sufficient manual dexterity to demonstrate proper EKG lead placement and operate medical equipment.
  • Visual and auditory ability to observe students’ work, equipment readings, and respond to classroom situations.
  • Ability to assist students with hands‑on skills, including positioning patients or adjusting equipment as needed.
