Preferred Education/Training/Experience- Masters Degree
- Post-Secondary Academic Advising, 5 years
- Texas High School Counselors Certificate, 5 years
- Knowledge of D2L Brightspace
- Knowledge of Early/Middle College High School programming and Secondary Foundation Graduation plan
- Knowledge of Texas core requirements, Career assessment programs, Course content and objectives
- Skill in using computers and related software application programs
- Skill in interviewing and advising
- Skill in interpreting college catalogs, course requirements and program parameters
- Communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc., sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
- K-12 Counseling Certificate
- Knowledge of secondary education setting, Foundation Graduation Plan, and Pathways.
- Assess student’s stage of development and promote student growth by assisting student in establishing academic and career goals.
- Advises students on academic and career issues: identifies the educational and career options appropriate for each student and assists with the analysis of each option; sets up an action plan for student to explore alternative careers and related majors.
- Identifies options for student to satisfy degree requirements; evaluates and makes recommendations on amendments/changes to student’s program of study; assists student in completion.
- Monitors academic progress of students; determines eligibility and satisfactory progress toward degree; identifies current and potential needs or problem areas; refers student to appropriate campus resources for assistance.
- Interprets and explains college policies and procedures.
- Assists students with admission and registration; provides guidance in course selection in keeping with student’s career path.
- Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
Positions in this class typically require stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Sedentary work:
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Jobs are sedentary if walking.
