Immediate Supervisor(s): Campus Principal and Teacher(s) Assigned
Position Summary: Assist the special education teacher in delivering instructional, physical, behavioral, and emotional support to students with disabilities, implement self‑help, hygiene, behavior management, prosocial skills, instructional programs, small group practice and data collection, attend relevant professional development, and work under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of the assigned certified teacher.
Responsibilities- Assist and/or supervise students throughout the school day in various educational environments (classroom, bus line, cafeteria, gym, restroom, playground, etc.).
- Prepare and manage instructional materials, learning stations, data collection, student schedules, and related supports.
- Work individually or in small groups to develop academic, behavioral, personal care, and motor skills.
- Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teacher, modify work appropriately, and collect data.
- Relay daily student and classroom information to substitute teachers.
- Recognize and adapt to students’ special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs, keeping teachers informed of concerns.
- Use visual strategies, positive behavior supports, assistive technology, and communication systems to promote positive outcomes.
- Implement positive behavior supports and collect related data.
- Use de‑escalation techniques in crisis situations; complete required crisis prevention and intervention training.
- Assist with physical needs: transferring, lifting, positioning, and other tasks.
- Assist with personal care needs: feeding, toileting, diaper changes, hygiene.
- Review ARD documents such as IEP goals, accommodations, testing requirements, and behavior intervention plans.
- Maintain required paperwork: clock‑ins, schedules, email communications, logs, trackers, trials, and other documentation.
- Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and staff.
- Maintain FERPA and HIPAA confidentiality.
- Participate in staff development training, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Education/Certification: High School Diploma or GED; at least 30 college hours or an associate’s degree or higher; meet ESSA academic assessment; valid Texas educational aide certificate; completed crisis intervention/restraint training; completed FERPA, HIPAA & TBSI training.

Skills:
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions with good interpersonal skills; ability to work well with students and staff. - Experience: Experience working with children; experience working with students with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual, developmental, emotional, behavioral, or physical disabilities (preferred).
- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, instructional equipment, and adaptive equipment.
- Motion: Frequent walking, reaching, standing, kneeling, squatting, bending, twisting.
