Personnel in this job title may be covered by NERC CIP cyber security standards. If the position is covered, prior to being hired, promoted, or transferred into the position, the candidate must successfully pass a Personnel Risk Assessment, which includes identity verification and a criminal background check. Prior to being granted unescorted access to cyber secure areas, the candidate must attend cyber security training.
Annual cyber security training is also required.

Key Qualifications- Understanding of ERCOT Market Rules, such as Nodal Protocols, Market Guides, and the RPG process for projects
- Transmission planning experience, familiarity with NERC TPL standards and the ERCOT Planning Guide, and has the ability to identify necessary electrical transmission system upgrades in the near and long-term capital project horizon
- Familiarity with power system analysis fundamentals, high-voltage electrical transmission lines and substation equipment
- Familiar with drawings that include one-line diagrams, physical layouts, G&D, topographic, geotechnical reports, plan & profiles, and others.

Summary:
Under general supervision plans, schedules, conducts, and coordinates the engineering work for a total project of moderate scope or for detailed phases of part of a major project.
- Manages all the engineering aspects of projects of moderate scope or detailed phases of major project efforts
- Leads or conducts performance, cost, and scheduling studies of varying size that are generally conventional in nature
- Supports operational areas through the application of standard and non-standard engineering techniques, practices, and procedures
- Communicates engineering ideas, recommendations, and evaluations to diverse internal groups in a working or conference type environment
- Represents the company's interests in engineering matters that may be varied and complex in nature
- Interacts with and provides broad knowledge technical support to other associates
- Applies engineering expertise to improve or develop new standards
- Provides technical direction and/or activity supervision to contractors and company personnel on a regular, ongoing basis
- Broad knowledge and proven ability to apply engineering principles, practices and regulations to, and perform economic and decision analysis studies of issues in areas including, but not limited to, generation, transmission, distribution, system planning, financial and regulatory issues, asset utilization, and environmental controls and regulations
- Ability to read, interpret and apply national, state and local codes and standards (IEEE, ANSI, NEC, NESC, ACI, AISC, ASME, NACE, etc.)
- Ability to translate electrical theory and physics to utility application for improving system reliability
- Ability to make informed repair decisions following company protocols
- Comfortable working in and around high voltage (up to 345kV) electrical facilities and equipment
- Ability to forecast budgets
- Demonstrated leadership skills, self-motivation, and interpersonal skills
Minimum Education and/or
Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from a college/university accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET), plus four or more years of engineering experience or three or more with a Fundamentals of Engineering certificate or three or more with a Master's Degree in Engineering.
- Fundamentals of Engineering certificate is preferred.
- Must possess current, legally valid driver's license and meet the Company's driving record requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret documents
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence, write speeches, and provide presentations
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, employees, and managers of the organization
- In-depth knowledge of personal computers including demonstrated proficiency with electrical engineering design programs
- In depth knowledge of word processing, database, and spreadsheet software
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out complex instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
- Ability to deal with complex problems involving several concrete variables in complicated situations
- This position requires periods of frequent sitting, standing, walking, and exposure to outside elements, lifting (50 pounds or under), crouching, bending, climbing and working at various heights
