We are seeking a Protection & Control Engineer to support the development and implementation of protection schemes and control strategies for transmission and distribution systems. This role involves performing system protection studies, coordinating protective devices, and ensuring compliance with industry standards such as NERC PRC. The engineer will contribute to both new infrastructure projects and upgrades to existing systems through advanced technical analysis and design.
About the Role
This position requires a dedicated professional to ensure the reliability and safety of electrical systems through effective protection and control strategies.
Responsibilities
- Conduct short-circuit and coordination studies using software such as ASPEN One Liner.
- Design and maintain protection and control settings for substations and grid equipment to ensure fault detection, system reliability, and safety.
- Analyze system disturbances and prepare post-event reports with recommendations, ensuring compliance with NERC PRC-004.
- Review and approve protection and control one-lines, schematics, logic diagrams, and wiring drawings.
- Provide technical support for relay testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
- Act as a subject matter expert on NERC and CIP compliance, assisting with documentation and audit readiness.
- Collaborate in the development and refinement of protection standards, relay coordination practices, and internal procedures.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical peer reviews and cross-functional coordination.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
Required Skills
- Proficiency with ASPEN One Liner.
- Strong understanding of protection and control engineering, including relay coordination and fault analysis.
- Knowledge of industry codes and standards (IEEE, ANSI, NESC, NEC, NERC, CIP).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle complex technical tasks independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Skills
- Concentration in Power Systems Engineering.
- Hands-on experience with protection schemes, control logic, and coordination studies.
