UPS Industrial Services is seeking an experienced Industrial Site Quality Control (QC) Manager to lead quality assurance efforts on industrial and petrochemical projects. This role is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of quality and compliance across all project phases, including weld and flange tracking, NDE requirements, documentation control, and adherence to ASME and API codes.
As the QC Manager, you will oversee a team of QC Inspectors, serve as the primary liaison between the project team and client representatives, and ensure that all project work meets or exceeds company, client, and regulatory requirements. This position requires a strong leader with deep technical knowledge, exceptional organizational skills, and a proactive commitment to safety and quality.
- Lead all quality control efforts for assigned projects, ensuring compliance with client requirements, UPSIS standards, ASME codes, and other governing regulations. evelop, Compile, manage, and maintain the Quality Management System under which they operate. This includes quality control manuals, procedures, datasheets, forms, logs, etc.
- Host, lead, and participate in client quality audits for the service line.
- Perform annual reviews of their Quality Management System for adequacy.
- Manage nonconformance investigations and reporting for the service line.
- Provide project level Quality Assurance support for the service line.
- Supervise and mentor QC Inspectors and Technicians, assigning duties, reviewing work, and supporting professional development.
- Manage weld tracking and mapping, verify welder certifications and performance, and oversee NDE (non-destructive examination) requirements.
- Monitor flange and fastener tracking, documentation, and mapping to ensure full traceability.
- Review and approve quality documentation, ensuring all records are complete, accurate, and properly archived.
- Serve as the primary point of contact with UPSIS Project Managers, client representatives, Authorized Inspectors, and third-party inspectors.
- Facilitate technical discussions with client engineering and ensure accurate communication of requirements to field personnel.
- Support turnover packages and documentation handoff to clients and UPSIS archives.
- Enforce adherence to UPS Industrial Services and OSHA/ANSI safety policies and procedures, including proper PPE usage and safe work practices.
- Conduct site inspections to identify safety hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented promptly.
- Support permit-to-work processes and ensure compliance with jurisdictional regulations.
- Interpret P&IDs, isometric drawings, ASME, API, and National Board Codes.
- Select WPSs for welding various base metal P-numbers and verify compliance with WPSs, PQRs, and WPQs.
- Evaluate Mill Test Reports (MTRs), flange assembly, bolt torquing/tensioning techniques, and proper pressure testing of piping systems and pressure vessels.
- Apply shop mathematics to solve technical problems in the field.
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
- Minimum of 5+ years of quality control experience in an industrial, petrochemical, or refinery environment.
- Strong leadership abilities with proven experience supervising QC Inspectors or Technicians.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other computer applications for documentation and reporting.
- Ability to work extended hours, overtime, and travel as required.
- Must be familiar with WPSs, PQRs, and WPQs.
- Must be familiar and be able to locate items in the ASME, API, and National Board Codes.
- Must be able to develop a weld and/or flange maps and logs to track welds or flange make-up. Must insure everything is complete on weld/and or flange maps and logs.
- Must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, physical, and PFT/FIT test.
- Valid TWIC card and reliable transportation to and from job sites.
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI)
- API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspector
- API 570 Piping Inspector
- Expert knowledge of welding, fabrication, flange management, and industrial quality systems.
- Ability to develop weld and flange maps, turnover logs, and complete accurate project documentation.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to converse effectively with clients, engineers, and field teams.
- Skilled at mentoring and leading teams in a fast-paced industrial environment.
