JOB OVERVIEWThe Maintenance Technician Specialist is responsible for performing routine maintenance and operational support tasks to ensure the safe and efficient functioning of BWC Terminal facilities. The role includes specialized welding responsibilities requiring certification and expertise in metal fabrication and repair, as well as preventive maintenance, equipment inspections, and operational readiness for mechanical systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES- Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment and facilities.
- Identify and comprehend the functions of the facility's pumps and valves.
- Assist in connecting flanges and installing gaskets for leak‑free pipeline connections.
- Work collaboratively to align pipelines correctly and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Operate forklifts safely and participate in training to maintain certification.
- Apply lubricating grease in truck racks and perform general equipment lubrication.
- Ensure proper installation and maintenance of grounding cables to prevent electrical hazards.
- Assist in the repair and maintenance of facility equipment, including temperature probes and essential equipment.
- Perform certified welding tasks—MIG, TIG, and stick welding—on infrastructure, pipelines, and equipment.
- Fabricate, modify, and repair metal components and structures to meet operational and safety standards.
- Interpret welding blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings for precise welds and structural modifications.
- Conduct weld inspections and quality assurance checks to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to design and implement custom metal solutions.
- Maintain welding equipment and supplies, ensuring readiness and compliance with safety protocols.
- Document welding activities and maintain records of certifications, inspections, and repairs.
- Maintain a clean and organized workspace to promote safety and efficiency.
- Support anodic protection efforts to prevent corrosion on metal surfaces and equipment.
- Monitor and ensure the proper operation of facility generators.
- Conduct regular checks on air compressors to verify working condition.
- Assist in completing terminal fuel checklists and ordering supplies as needed.
- Read and interpret documents and manuals related to the facility's structures and equipment.
- Inspect equipment on a regular schedule to ensure safe operation per company and regulatory requirements.
- Research and make recommendations for equipment and parts purchases.
- Maintain necessary records and paperwork.
- Take initiative to identify problems, use judgment to find solutions, and resolve issues promptly.
- Support team efforts, cooperate with others, and actively learn from team members.
- Comply with applicable regulatory and company health, safety, environmental, and security requirements.
- Complete required training promptly and perform duties safely, reporting injuries, spills, or unsafe conditions to supervisors.
- Minimum 2 years of terminal maintenance experience with pump alignments and short tank closures.
- Minimum 5 years of welding experience.
- Highly skilled in hand/power tools, mechanics, electrical, and welding techniques for equipment service and repair.
- Certified Welder with current credentials from an accredited institution (e.g., AWS).
- Proficiency in MIG, TIG, and stick welding techniques.
- Experience in metal fabrication, structural welding, and repair in an industrial or terminal environment.
- Ability to pass weld tests and maintain certification as required by company standards.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot problems and repairs.
- Customer service focus.
- Possession or ability to obtain a TWIC card.
- Wearing safety equipment—respirator, safety shoes, goggles, gloves, etc.
- Certification to operate a motor vehicle and forklift.
- Mechanically inclined with skills in disassembling, repairing, and assembling equipment.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents, blueprints, and drawings.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; ability to write reports and documentation.
