About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Journeyman Instrument & Electrical (I&E) Technician to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our manufacturing facility in Texas City, Texas.
This role is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, calibrating, and installing instrumentation and electrical equipment that supports production, safety, environmental compliance, and operational excellence. The successful candidate will work closely with Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to improve asset reliability and support continuous improvement initiatives across the site.
Key Responsibilities Safety & Compliance- Maintain strict adherence to environmental, health, safety, and process safety requirements.
- Follow all site procedures, standards, and life‑critical safety processes including LOTO, confined space entry, hot work, system openings, working at heights, and energized electrical work.
- Actively participate in site safety programs and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support efforts to improve asset reliability, reduce maintenance‑related risks, and eliminate recurring failures.
- Collaborate with Operations and Maintenance teams to identify and resolve equipment reliability issues.
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on instrumentation and electrical systems.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and install instrumentation, electrical equipment, motors, power distribution systems, lighting systems, and control circuits.
- Perform instrument calibrations, loop checks, functional testing, and equipment verification using calibration software and computer‑aided calibration tools.
- Diagnose equipment failures and determine root causes of poor performance, degradation, or recurring issues.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, one‑line diagrams, loop drawings, ladder logic, P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and equipment blueprints.
- Support asset improvement projects and reliability initiatives.
- Participate in factory acceptance testing (FAT), installation verification, commissioning, and startup activities for new equipment.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, observations, and repair history within SAP or computerized maintenance management systems.
- Support continuous improvement efforts focused on reliability, cost optimization, and maintenance excellence.
- Attend technical training programs to maintain and enhance skills.
- Associate degree in Instrumentation Technology, Electrical Technology, or related technical field.
- Completion of a recognized Instrumentation and Electrical apprenticeship program or equivalent military/industrial experience.
- Minimum of three (3) years of industrial instrumentation and electrical maintenance experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) prior to employment.
Working knowledge of:
- Digital, electronic, and pneumatic instrumentation systems
- Process control instrumentation and troubleshooting techniques
- Motors, motor controls, power distribution, and electrical systems
- Smart transmitters, field devices, and calibration equipment
- Schematics, loop drawings, wiring diagrams, P&IDs, and blueprints
- Distributed Control Systems (DCS) such as Emerson DeltaV, Foxboro I/A, or similar platforms
- Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) including Rockwell, Allen‑Bradley, Modicon, or equivalent systems
- Instrument calibration software and computerized maintenance management systems
- Electrical and instrumentation troubleshooting in a manufacturing, petrochemical, refining, or industrial environment
- Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
