We are seeking an experienced, detail‑oriented, and motivated Accountant to join our dedicated Finance Department. This role plays a critical part in maintaining the City’s financial integrity and supporting organizational strategic goals.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Assistant Finance Director, the Accountant performs professional accounting work involving payroll administration, bank reconciliations, accounts receivable, general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, and other accounting functions essential to the City’s financial operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Administer and process payroll in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and City policies.
  • Prepare and reconcile multiple bank accounts and investment accounts.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Manage accounts receivable activities, including billing, collections, and account reconciliation.
  • Assist with month‑end and year‑end closing processes.
  • Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial reports and audit schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with governmental accounting standards, policies, and internal controls.
  • Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and financial issues.
  • Assist with annual audits and other special projects.
  • Collaborate with departments across the organization to provide financial information and support.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and increased efficiencies.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) pronouncements, and Governmental Accounting, Auditing, and Financial Reporting (GAAFR) preferred.
  • Knowledge of municipal functions and practices with a basic understanding of governmental accounting.
  • Ability to utilize 10‑key calculator by touch.
  • Ability to perform various accounting‑related projects under minimum supervision.
  • Ability to perform internal control audits.
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office and other Windows‑based programs.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.
  • OR Three (3) years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
  • Experience with payroll processing, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and accounts receivable.
  • Municipal or governmental accounting experience is preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities may be considered.
  • Working knowledge of ERP Pro
    10/Tyler Technologies or related software preferred.
Work Environment
  • Office environment with frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and utilization of computer keyboard and printers with regular/daily exposure to computer screens.
  • May be required to carry, hold, lift, push, and/or pull a maximum of 35 pounds of computer papers/records and retrieval of records and/or supplies from the storage areas.
