This is a highly visible opportunity to partner directly with ownership, work alongside an outsourced CFO advisory team, and help build the financial infrastructure that supports the company's next chapter of growth.

This isn't simply a role focused on closing the books. It's an opportunity to improve processes, mentor a tenured team, and become a trusted leader within an organization that values teamwork, loyalty, and long-term relationships.

About the Construction Assistant Controller:

The Assistant Controller will oversee the day-to-day accounting operations for a multi-entity construction business while partnering closely with ownership and an outsourced CFO. This individual will be responsible for financial reporting, work-in-progress accounting, cash management, reconciliations, audit support, and process improvements.

Responsibilities include...

  • Lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Prepare accurate financial statements and maintain the general ledger.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, perform balance sheet reconciliations, and ensure timely financial reporting.
  • Maintain supporting schedules and strong internal accounting controls.

Construction Accounting & Cash Management

  • Reconcile bank accounts, monitor cash flow, assist with cash forecasting, and support banking relationships.

Operational Accounting & Compliance

  • Oversee accounts receivable reconciliations, aging, collections, and invoice approvals.
  • Support annual audits, tax preparation, and other financial compliance requirements.
  • Ensure accounting records remain accurate, complete, and audit-ready.

Process Improvement & Leadership

  • Leverage Computer Ease ERP to improve reporting, streamline workflows, and support future system enhancements.
  • Identify opportunities to strengthen accounting processes and internal controls.
  • Partner with ownership and the outsourced CFO to improve financial reporting and operational decision-making.
  • Over time, mentor the accounting team, establish best practices, and serve as the primary accounting leader for the organization.

Qualifications of the Construction Assistant Controller

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Experience preparing financial statements
