The Azle Memorial Library is seeking a highly motivated individual with an enthusiastic and professional demeanor to join our team. Applicants must be quick learners, enjoy working with all ages of the public, and have the ability to multitask while remaining organized.
Job ResponsibilitiesSorting, organizing and shelving library materials; creating and managing library accounts; assisting all ages of the public in person and via phone with book selection, check out, and general questions; instructing the public in the use of library computers, printers and other technology; cash handling; promoting and explaining the use of library services and programs; assisting with large public events; plus extra duties as assigned.
Summaryof Classification
Under the direction of the Library Director and Assistant Director, performs routine manual and clerical work in the public library. Work is performed in accordance with well-defined procedures. Works under direct supervision, although may operate with some independence once procedures are learned, with only occasional checks for adherence to prescribed standards. Does related work as required.
Schedule- Year‑round position: average 15‑21 hours per week (depending on Saturday rotations)
- Monday: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
- Tuesday:
Off - Wednesday: 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
- Thursday: 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
- Friday:
Off - Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (2 Saturdays off per month)
- Sunday:
Off
Ideal applicants may provide occasional extra coverage or work special events as the need arises. Additional coverage may occur:
Monday/Wednesday/Friday: 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.;
Tuesday/Thursday: 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m.;
Saturdays: 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
- Sits, stoops and/or stands for extended periods of time.
- Reads computer screens and/or complex source materials to verify information.
- Retrieves books and materials from shelves up to 8 feet high with the aid of step stools.
- Lifts and carries materials and equipment up to 50 pounds.
- Can withstand some exposure to dust, odors, and electrical/mechanical hazards.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Knowledge, abilities and skills of modern public library operations.
- Ability to learn routine library procedures and become familiar with library materials and services.
- Proficiency in personal computer and Microsoft Office.
- Prefer at least 1 year of experience in a library or customer‑service related field.
- Willingness to attend educational workshops as required.
Job Duties
- Checks in returned materials, cleans, sorts, and returns items to the shelves.
- Maintains books in correct order on the shelf.
- Assists the public in the use of library computers, online catalog, and other equipment.
- Uses library automation system to input, organize, and locate patron and material information.
This position requires contact with all members of the general public and collaboration with city employees and community groups. Effective and courteous communication, establishment, and maintenance of working relationships with other employees are required.
