About the role – Customs/ Logistics Compliance Officer
The Customs/ Logistics Compliance Officer is responsible for ensuring full import and export compliance across the organisation. The role supports the wider business in adhering to customs regulations, maintaining robust internal procedures, and preparing for internal and external compliance audits. This position manages all non UK imports and export processes, liaises with customs intermediaries, and serves as the primary contact for HMRC audits.
What you will do:Business Support & Compliance
- Provide guidance, support and communication to the wider business on all import and export compliance matters.
- Coach, monitor and assist cross functional teams to ensure adherence to customs processes and procedures.
- Maintain regular communication with all departments to ensure critical compliance information is cascaded effectively.
- Implement, update and maintain import and export departmental procedures.
- Ensure business readiness for import/export compliance audits.
- Act as the main point of contact for HMRC import and export compliance audits.
- Undertake reasonable duties aligned with the role, supporting changing business needs and contributing to continuous improvement.
- Manage all non UK imports (materials and repairs) for Hayward Tyler Limited and Hayward Tyler Fluid Handling.
- Oversee and control the import shipping process using internal procedures and business systems.
- Calculate accurate import VAT and duty charges; ensure these values are correctly reflected on C79 statements.
- Liaise with customs intermediaries and freight forwarders to confirm the accuracy of customs declarations.
- Manage the import process for repair units, ensuring correct application of customs procedures (Inward Processing / Home Use).
- Prepare and submit renewal applications for Inward Processing Authorisation.
- Ensure all monthly imports are accurately reflected on the Government MSS database.
- Prepare and submit the quarterly Bill of Discharge to HMRC following internal approval.
- Work with the purchasing team to coordinate overseas collection and customs clearance of materials.
- Manage the export process for repair units, ensuring correct application of customs procedures (IP / OP / Home Use).
- Monitor authorised time limits for repair unit exports and secure extensions when required.
- Work closely with the Dispatch Coordinator to ensure compliance with shipping terms and required documentation (certificates of origin, ATRs, Caricoms, export declarations, export licences).
- Ensure all monthly exports are accurately reflected on the Government MSS database.
- Provide cover for the Dispatch Coordinator when required.
- Adhere to all Health & Safety, Quality, and Environmental procedures.
All candidates must be able to prove that they have the right to work in the UK.
What you will need:- Minimum 3+ years of experience in a customs and trade compliance role.
- Strong knowledge of international trade agreements and customs law.
- Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
- Effective team player with the ability to work collaboratively across departments.
- Experience or knowledge of the SPIRE Export Licensing system.
- Experience using a manufacturing ERP system (e.g., Epicor).
- Ability to coach and mentor colleagues to strengthen organisational compliance capability.
