Job Description Primary

Purpose:

Perform the daily payroll operations for the district, ensuring accurate and timely processing in full compliance with TRS, state and federal laws and regulations.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

TASBO Certification Preferred

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

Strong understanding of local, state, and federal payroll regulations and compliance requirements.

In-depth knowledge of payroll accounting principles and auditing procedures.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex payroll information to all levels of staff.

Ability to implement efficient payroll processes.

Pays high attention to detail and has the ability to process payroll data accurately and efficiently.

Proficient in using payroll and office software for tasks such as developing spreadsheets, managing databases, and preparing reports.

Capable of overseeing and guiding team members to ensure smooth and accurate payroll procedures.

Experience:

3 years of payroll experience at a high level of responsibility

Texas Public School District Experience Preferred

Responsibilities and Duties:

School District Payroll Accounting
  • Prepare accurate district payroll for distribution to employees established procedures.
  • Receive and audit time sheets for all district employees. Calculate employee wages, salaries, hours worked, and overtime pay, and determine withholding, deductions, and net pay.
  • Balance payroll earnings and deductions; initiate related transfers of funds and deposits
  • Maintain district payroll registers, employee payroll information, and other original documentation in an orderly and accurate manner in accordance with State, Federal, and district requirements.
  • Prepare payroll budget projections for various budget scenarios as directed by the CFO.
Data Entry
  • Prepare and post all payroll changes, including payroll deductions, salary changes, terminations, and new employee information.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required including maintaining payroll and related files such payroll records, absent-from-duty reports, and service records.
  • Prepare and submit payroll reports and forms, including those required by the Internal Revenue Service, Texas Workforce Commission, Texas Retirement System (TRS), Federal Insurance Contributors’ Act (FICA), Medicare, and Texas New Hire Reporting / General Attorney

Other

  • Collaborate effectively with all school district employees and leadership to ensure the accuracy and completeness of payroll information. Address and resolve all payroll-related issues and inquiries, providing clear and professional explanations of complex payroll concepts to employees at all levels within the organization.
  • Partner with the Human Resources department to maintain up-to-date employee records and deliver outstanding customer service to all LVISD employees throughout their entire tenure.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee payroll information.
  • All other duties assigned by Chief Financial Officer.

Job Requirements
