Job Type: Temporary (as needed)
Salary: $12.00 Hourly
Rolling Plains Management Corporation is seeking a Temporary Substitute Teacher at the Crowell Child Development Center. The role reports to the Center Director and supports daily classroom activities and child interaction.
Essential Job Functions- Maintain training requirements and records in accordance with TDFPS Minimum Licensing
- Maintain a safe, healthy learning environment indoors and outdoors; complete an outdoor safety checklist
- Assist in planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities in all classroom functions, including self‑care, indoor and outdoor learning, meal or snack time, and documenting on lesson plans
- Maintain an open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with each child’s family; encourage participation in the program and promote parent‑child bonding
- Promote feelings of security and trust in children by being warm, supportive, and comforting, and by establishing strong caring relationships
- Provide experiences that foster curiosity, initiative, problem‑solving, creativity, sense of self, and group belonging
- Communicate effectively with parents and community resources
- Coordinate and interact positively with parent/volunteer assigned to the classroom
- Encourage family involvement in classroom and all activities, including Literacy RIF activities
- Coordinate with teaching staff on all classroom activities
- Ensure TDFPS regulations are followed to maintain license
- Treat all children, families, and co‑workers with respect and consideration regardless of race, religion, family background, or culture
- Assist in daily health checks for children and document on the health check form
- Assist in decorating and setting up the room and activities according to themes
- Maintain confidentiality of all children, families, and co‑workers
- Use positive methods of child guidance in accordance with the established guidance plan
- Ensure child‑staff ratios are maintained at all times according to Head Start performance standards
- Regularly monitor children on the playground to ensure safe and appropriate play; document daily on the outdoor safety checklist
- Ensure no child is ever left alone or unattended; maintain a head count before leaving and upon returning
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with other team members and management
- Be aware of legal responsibilities for reporting suspected child abuse and neglect in accordance with federal, state, or local law
- Perform cleaning and general maintenance of the classroom, including mopping, sweeping, dusting, and cleaning restrooms or other duties assigned by the Center Director
- Arrive on time and be ready to work scheduled hours
- High school diploma or GED required
- Minimum age of 18 years old
- Teacher assistant or daycare experience preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively with team members and management
- Embrace the principle of the parent as the primary educator and support parent‑child attachment
- Work with diverse populations required
- Understand and carry out instructions and procedures as required
- Flexible and able to adapt to change in the workplace
- Willing to take and pass a drug/alcohol test and comply with the “Drug Free” agency policy
- Pass regular criminal history checks
- Submit to TB tests as required
- Provide reliable self‑transportation with a valid Texas motor vehicle operator’s permit of appropriate classification and endorsement
- Maintain a satisfactory motor vehicle record and meet insurability requirements as required by law
- Maintain physical condition and stamina for standing or sitting for extended periods, driving or riding in vehicle, and interaction with children at child’s eye level
- Lifting boxes of supplies or equipment up to 25 pounds; occasional pushing, pulling, and moving
- Regularly required to sit for extended periods; may require long periods of standing or walking; occasional bending or squatting
- Adapt to inclement weather conditions and situations
- Ability to drive long distances
- Noise level moderate to loud in the center
- Work in stressful environment and manage stress effectively
- Adapt to flexible work schedules as established by management
- Normal to heavy travel for meetings, classes, and workshops in and out of the service area
- Ability to travel by air as needed to attend training, conferences, and related activities
