Project Manager - Mechanical & Plumbing
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead commercial and industrial construction projects with a focus on mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing project scope, schedule, budget, quality, safety, and client relationships from pre-construction through closeout. This role requires a hands on construction professional who can coordinate trade partners, mitigate risks, and deliver projects on time and within budget while ensuring compliance with industry codes and standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead project planning and execution for commercial and industrial mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
- Develop and maintain realistic project schedules using MS Project or equivalent, coordinating with subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams to meet milestones.
- Prepare, monitor, and control project budgets and cost forecasts; review and approve invoices, change orders, and payment applications.
- Manage procurement of materials and equipment; collaborate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery and quality compliance.
- Supervise onsite activities and coordinate trade contractors to ensure work is performed to specifications, plans, and applicable codes.
- Conduct regular site inspections and quality assurance/quality control reviews to identify and resolve issues promptly.
- Ensure compliance with safety policies, OSHA regulations, and company safety programs; lead or participate in safety meetings and incident investigations.
- Communicate project status, risks, and opportunities to clients, stakeholders, and senior management through clear reporting and meetings.
- Oversee commissioning, testing, and turnover of mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC systems; ensure as built documentation and closeout packages are complete.
- Manage change orders, claims, and dispute resolution; implement risk mitigation strategies throughout the project lifecycle.
- Mentor and coordinate project engineers, superintendents, and field personnel to foster teamwork and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years proven project management experience in commercial and/or industrial construction with emphasis on mechanical and plumbing.
- Proficiency with project management tools (MS Project, Primavera, Procore or similar) and Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, plumbing, and HVAC design, installation practices, and applicable codes and standards (IBC, IMC, NFPA, local codes).
- Experience reading and interpreting construction drawings, specifications, and shop drawings.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, schedules, change orders, and project documentation.
- Relevant certifications a plus (PMP, CCM, LEED, or HVAC-related certifications); OSHA 10/30 preferred.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with a focus on collaboration and problem solving.
- Valid drivers license and ability to travel to job sites as required; willingness to work in a field environment with hands on involvement.
