Refrigeration Construction Superintendent

This role leads field operations for large-scale refrigeration projects at multiple distribution facilities, ensuring they are built safely, on schedule, and in strict accordance with drawings and specifications. The Superintendent oversees all refrigeration-related work, including main compressors and extensive stainless and copper piping, while coordinating a field crew and subcontractors on complex projects valued up to $10 million. This position offers the opportunity to manage long-duration projects, collaborate closely with project management, and maintain high standards of quality, safety, and client satisfaction.

Responsibilities
  • Lead field operations for large refrigeration construction projects, including main compressors, stainless steel piping, copper piping, and related systems.
  • Ensure the project is built in accordance with contract drawings, specifications, and quality standards while maintaining job site safety at all times.
  • Identify job site facility requirements and work with the Project Manager to acquire necessary assets and resources for field operations.
  • Establish and maintain job site security as required by project conditions and client expectations.
  • Contact local building and permitting officials and establish parameters for inspections, ensuring compliance with all applicable codes and regulations.
  • Receive all contract documents, maintain organized onsite files, and ensure that all field personnel have access to current drawings and specifications.
  • Review contract documents for practicality and constructability and communicate any deficiencies or conflicts to the Project Manager for resolution.
  • Work with the Project Manager in the selection of subcontractors and suppliers, providing input on capabilities, performance, and project fit.
  • Conduct start-up meetings with all subcontractors to review scope of work, safety expectations, project schedule, and quality requirements.
  • Monitor purchasing and delivery schedules to ensure materials, equipment, and supplies arrive on time to support the construction schedule.
  • Develop and monitor short-term schedules to align daily and weekly field activities with the overall project schedule.
  • Conduct weekly progress meetings with the Project Manager and subcontractors to review progress, address issues, and adjust plans as needed.
  • Coordinate activities of all on-site subcontractors and crew members to ensure efficient operation and minimize conflicts in the field.
  • Regularly monitor job site activities to verify adherence to schedule, quality requirements, and safety protocols.
  • Review all submittals and shop drawings to verify compliance with project specifications and contract drawings before installation.
  • Establish and enforce an on-site loss control program in conformance with corporate loss control guidelines.
  • Conduct jobsite safety inspections at least once per week, complete Jobsite Safety Checklists, and follow up on corrective actions.
  • Address safety concerns during regular progress meetings with subcontractors and onsite personnel, reinforcing safety expectations.
  • Complete reports on all loss control incidents promptly and submit them immediately, then investigate thoroughly to prevent recurrence.
  • Ensure all work is completed in accordance with the site-specific safety plan and the corporate safety plan.
  • Support the Project Manager during subcontractor bidding and award stages to ensure prospective subcontractors understand quality requirements.
  • Conduct pre-startup meetings with subcontractors and project management to outline quality expectations and project procedures.
  • Verify that installed work conforms to contract documents, project specifications, and quality standards.
  • Confirm that insurance coverage is in place before any subcontractor mobilizes to the job site.
  • Complete quality checklists daily on all work in progress to document compliance and identify issues early.
  • Coordinate the activities of independent testing laboratories and ensure they understand project requirements and schedules.
  • Receive and review subcontractors' daily inspection reports to verify accuracy and compliance with project standards.
  • Conduct inspections of work as it nears completion, prepare punch lists, and issue them to subcontractors for timely completion.
  • Oversee final inspections and sign-offs related to insulated metal panels (IMP) and other key refrigeration components.
  • Complete and transmit daily construction reports to the Project Manager, accurately documenting manpower, progress, issues, and delays.
  • Prepare and immediately transmit incident reports and subcontractor accident reports to the Project Manager, Director of Construction, and Chief Operations Officer as required.
  • Verify that signed subcontracts, bonds (if required), and insurance certificates are in place before subcontractors begin work on the project.
