Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Asphalt Paving Supervisor to lead municipal street construction, overlay, repair, and maintenance operations. This position is responsible for supervising crews, coordinating equipment and materials, ensuring safe work practices, and delivering high-quality asphalt paving and street maintenance projects on schedule.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Supervise and coordinate daily asphalt paving, street construction, overlay, repair, patching, and maintenance activities.
- Plan work assignments, assign crew members, monitor productivity, and ensure work is completed safely and efficiently.
- Inspect job sites to confirm proper preparation, grade, slope, compaction, asphalt placement, and finished surface quality.
- Coordinate materials, equipment, traffic control, and crew needs for municipal street projects.
- Operate and oversee the safe operation of heavy machinery and paving equipment as needed.
- Maintain daily records, work reports, material usage, equipment use, and project progress updates.
- Train, guide, and mentor crew members in paving methods, equipment operation, safety procedures, and proper maintenance practices.
- Identify and resolve field issues related to equipment, materials, weather, traffic conditions, and site conditions.
- Ensure compliance with city policies, safety standards, work zone requirements, and applicable construction specifications.

This position requires outdoor work in heat, cold, rain, dust, noise, traffic, and active construction environments. The employee may be required to stand, walk, climb, bend, lift, operate equipment, work around moving machinery, and respond to emergency street repair or maintenance needs.
Minimum Qualifications- Significant experience in asphalt paving, street construction, overlays, street repair, and municipal street maintenance.
- Prior supervisory or crew lead experience in asphalt paving, road construction, or public works operations.
- Strong knowledge of asphalt materials, paving techniques, base preparation, compaction, drainage, patching, and surface repair.
- Ability to read work orders, plans, grades, measurements, and project specifications.
- Ability to safely operate heavy equipment and train others in safe equipment use.
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and respond to operational needs as required.
- Valid driver's license required; commercial driver's license preferred or required depending on assignment.
- Experience working for a municipality, county, public works department, or street maintenance division.
- Knowledge of work zone safety, traffic control, utility coordination, and public right-of-way operations.
- Experience scheduling crews, equipment, materials, and contractors for paving and street maintenance projects.
- CDL, equipment operator certifications, traffic control certification, or other related training.
