- Interview applicants and recipients in person or via inbound/outbound telephone calls to obtain financial and personal information.
- Evaluate data from electronic and other sources and enter information into the computer‑based eligibility system.
- Compute and authorize benefits based on eligibility determination.
- Process work in accordance with state and federal regulations, established procedures, guidelines, and time frames.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Use fact‑finding techniques to obtain, relate, and evaluate information from applicants.
- Read, understand, apply, and explain detailed regulations and policies.
- Perform basic arithmetic functions.
- Manage time efficiently by establishing priorities in accordance with deadlines.
- Establish and maintain effective work relationships with others.
- Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Follow written and oral directions and instructions.
- Operate computers for data entry and office software such as Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
- Use Microsoft Teams and soft phone technology as required.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- One year of customer service experience with public contact (e.g., retail, call center, clerical, hospitality, banking, receptionist).
- Experience interviewing clients and gathering personal information in person or over the phone preferred.
- Sixty semester or ninety quarter hours from an accredited college or university preferred.
- Alternate:
Thirty semester or forty‑five quarter hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of experience.
This is a temporary position expected to end Aug 31 2027. Temporary employees may be eligible to transfer to a regular status position subject to availability, tenure, and performance. Employees may be required to work overtime, including weekends. All applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal history background check and other due diligence checks. Applicants may not have a history of substantiated fraudulent activity against HHSC.
Candidates with a non‑fraud over payment and an outstanding balance must agree to repay the balance as a condition of employment. Telework may be available per agency policy.
