Job Summary

The Dentist is a licensed oral healthcare professional responsible for providing comprehensive dental care to patients across all age groups. The role involves diagnosing oral health conditions, developing and executing individualized treatment plans, and promoting preventive dental care. The Dentist ensures safe, ethical, and patient-centered care while maintaining compliance with state regulations, professional standards, and clinic policies. This role supports both outpatient and procedural dental services and contributes to a positive patient experience without preventable complications or delays.

Functions of the Role Clinical Judgment

Conducts thorough oral examinations and diagnostic assessments using clinical reasoning and evidence-based practices. Identifies patient dental conditions and prioritizes treatment needs. Develops, implements, and evaluates individualized treatment plans and modifies them based on patient response and outcomes.

Clinical Inquiry

Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of dental practices and procedures. Participates in quality improvement initiatives and adopts evidence-based dentistry through continuing education and professional development.

Caring Practices

Creates a compassionate, safe, and therapeutic environment for patients. Builds trust-based relationships while maintaining professional boundaries. Manages dental pain and anxiety to promote patient comfort and healing.

Response to Diversity

Recognizes and incorporates patient diversity—including culture, beliefs, age, lifestyle, and socioeconomic factors—into personalized treatment and education plans.

Advocacy and Ethical Practice

Protects patient confidentiality, autonomy, dignity, and rights. Ensures informed consent and advocates for patient-centered treatment decisions. Identifies and addresses ethical and clinical concerns appropriately.

Facilitation of Learning

Educates patients and families on oral hygiene, preventive care, treatment options, and post-procedure care. Assesses learning needs and documents patient understanding and outcomes.

Works collaboratively with dental assistants, hygienists, administrative staff, and specialists to deliver integrated and efficient patient care. Delegates tasks appropriately and ensures follow-up care.

Utilizes available clinical resources efficiently while maintaining safety, quality, and cost-effectiveness. Recognizes operational constraints and plans care delivery accordingly.

Professionalism

Participates in clinic operations, peer collaboration, and decision-making processes. Commits to continuous professional growth through education, certifications, and involvement in professional dental organizations. Contributes to mentoring and development of team members and supports community oral health initiatives.

Certification / Degree Requirements
  • DDS or DMD from an accredited dental school
  • Active Texas State Dental License

Work Environment

This position operates in an outpatient dental clinic setting. Management reserves the right to assign or reassign duties as needed. All staff are expected to demonstrate integrity, professionalism, teamwork, and a commitment to high-quality patient care.
