Advanced Heart Failure Transplant Cardiologist

Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a fellowship trained, board certified/board eligible Advanced Heart Failure Transplant Cardiologist for our advanced heart failure transplant team in the Greater Austin Region.

As part of a 9-member advanced heart failure team, you will provide inpatient and outpatient care for patients undergoing mechanical circulatory support (including LVAD, VAD, and heart transplant) and permanent heart replacements. Your role will require frequent inpatient rounding, clinical evaluations with echocardiography, and invasive procedures such as right heart catheterization, implantable pulmonary artery monitoring, and endomyocardial biopsies, primarily at Lakeway Hospital.

Responsibilities
  • Provide inpatient and outpatient heart failure and transplant consultation services.
  • Perform right heart catheterization, implantable pulmonary artery monitor placement, and endomyocardial biopsies.
  • Conduct echocardiography for LVAD/HTx patients.
  • Cover inpatient cardiac transplant service rotations at BSWH Round Rock and BSWH Memorial Hospital in Temple.
  • Participate in education of Cardiology Fellows (ACGME program) and other trainees.
  • Manage inpatient call schedule: 1:4 in Round Rock and six weeks per year in Temple, with a predominant amount of time in Lakeway.
  • Collaborate with dedicated heart failure nurses and APPs, and contribute to program expansion.
  • Provide clinical coverage for transplant, inpatient, and outpatient services.
Qualifications
  • UNOS qualified for the care of patients with cardiac transplants.
  • Fellowship training in Advanced Heart Failure or Cardiac Transplantation.
  • Board certified or board eligible in Cardiology.
  • Must be licensed to practice medicine in Texas.
  • Interest in education and research is encouraged (but not required).
  • Proficiency in managing VAD/HTx patients and performing related invasive procedures.
