About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center in Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) is the United States Army's premier medical institution. Located on Fort Sam Houston, BAMC is a 425-bed academic medical center, and is the Department of Defense's largest facility and only Level 1 trauma center. BAMC is also home to the Center for the Intrepid, an outpatient rehabilitation facility. The center is composed of ten separate organizations, including community medical clinics, centered around the Army's largest in-patient hospital.
BAMC is staffed by more than 8,000 soldiers, airmen, sailors, civilians, and contractors, providing care to wounded service members and the San Antonio community at large.
Brooke Army Medical Center has a history which dates back to 1879 when the first Post Hospital opened as a small medical dispensary located in a single-story wooden building. In 1886, the first permanent hospital was built. In 1908, an 84-bed Station Hospital was constructed on the west side of the post.

Management prefers Board Certified Internal Medicine Physician.
Management prefers experience in Inpatient Medicine and Consultative Medicine.
- Serve as an Internal Medicine Physician in a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH); scope includes a broad spectrum of health services for adults ranging from preventative medicine to diagnosis and treatment of complex acute and chronic diseases.
- Serve as an inpatient general medicine ward attending physician.
- Coordinate and/or integrates care across all elements of the healthcare system (e.g., subspecialty care, hospitals, home health agencies, nursing homes) and the patient's community;
Admit patients to the hospital when appropriate. - Lead and provides technical oversight of multidisciplinary clinical team (e.g. nurses, social workers, therapists, and various technicians) that are assigned to the medical home and responsible for panel management and patient care.
- Serve as an inpatient and outpatient consultant for the Internal Medicine Consult Service; must be available for telephonic or personal consultation for inpatient care when on call.
- Provide first contact, continuous, comprehensive primary care for adults and DoD beneficiaries according to standards of care, the PCMH model of care, Army policy, and relevant regulations.
- Coordinate and/or integrate care across all elements of the healthcare system (e.g., subspecialty care, hospitals, home health agencies, nursing homes) and the patient's community;
Admit patients to the hospital when appropriate. - Lead and provide technical oversight of multidisciplinary clinical team (e.g. nurses, social workers, therapists, and various technicians) that are assigned to the medical home and responsible for panel management and patient care.
- Teach and provide consultation to other health care providers as assigned.
- Complete required documentation and records pertaining to all medical services provided; properly safeguards all reports and records according to the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.
- Participate in Continuing Medical Education and quality assurance activities.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 45 pounds is required.
- Provide consultative preoperative and perioperative recommendations to the surgical specialties as well as teaching consultative medicine to the assigned house staff.
