  • 8:00 AM-5:00 PM
  • 6:30 AM-3:30 PM
  • No routine night shifts
  • After-hours call is performed from home and shared among providers on a rotating basis.
Position Overview

We are seeking a Staff Psychiatrist - Inpatient to provide direct psychiatric care to patients within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) at the Skyview Unit in Rusk, Texas.

This is a permanent, direct-hire opportunity offering a structured Monday-Friday daytime schedule, competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, and access to Texas public-sector retirement benefits.

The successful candidate should be comfortable working in a secure correctional healthcare environment and providing care to patients with acute and chronic psychiatric conditions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of assigned patients.
  • Conduct psychiatric, physical, and neurological examinations.
  • Develop and manage individualized treatment plans.
  • Participate in voluntary admission and compelled psychoactive medication proceedings.
  • Participate in civil commitment proceedings when required.
  • Provide clinical supervision to psychiatric advanced practice providers as assigned.
  • Provide emergency psychiatric consultation and participate in rotating after-hours call coverage.
  • Participate in Psychiatry Quality Improvement/Quality Management programs.
  • Collaborate with medical, mental health, nursing, utilization review, and correctional healthcare teams.
  • Maintain appropriate clinical documentation and comply with UTMB/TDCJ policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
