Position: Correctional Physician Dilley, TX

The Physician provides professional medical direction, oversight, and direct patient care in a correctional facility.
The successful applicant should be able to perform all of the following functions at a pace and level of performance consistent with the actual job requirements:
Provide a variety of professional medical services to inmates/residents, including examinations, diagnosing medical problems, prescribing medications, and providing treatment and follow-up care.Provide leadership and direction for the medical program in collaboration with the Health Services Supervisor.Monitor and review operations and standards of care delivered to inmates/residents.Interview inmates/residents and make decisions regarding admissions.Conduct clinical rounds.Participate in treatment team meetings to devise, review, and modify individual health plans.Direct unit treatment operations.Perform minor surgeries and occasional major surgeries if necessary.Hold clinics for nursing specialists to make diagnoses, determine treatments, and prescribe protocols.Maintain good working relationships with facility staff, nursing staff, contract providers, and outside agencies.Utilize established policies and procedures, exercising sound independent judgment in decision-making.Assist in formulating facility policies related to medical services.Motivate and encourage staff to perform duties in accordance with policies and procedures.Regularly evaluate medical services to prevent misuse or duplication.Monitor inpatient hospitalizations and facilitate early releases when appropriate.Closely monitor potential catastrophic illnesses.Prepare and maintain records, reports, and logs accurately and timely.Maintain confidentiality and security of all medical records.Audit medical files for proper documentation of services provided.Evaluate and recommend improvements for operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness.Meet with external hospital and agency administrators to ensure effective collaboration.Support accreditation processes such as NCCHC, ACA, and JCAHO by ensuring organizational and service standards are met.Accept on-call responsibilities.Attend seminars, workshops, and conferences as required.Provide health counseling and education on an individual or group basis.Clearly communicate responsibilities, authorities, and accountability to subordinates.Conduct and participate in staff meetings, promoting effective communication and operational consistency.Communicate effectively with administration, staff, inmates/residents, visitors, and the public, demonstrating tact, diplomacy, and good judgment.Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, regulations, and legal documents relevant to medical practice.Qualifications:- Graduate from an accredited medical school.
- Licensed to practice medicine in the state of employment.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Minimum age: 18 years.
