Primary Purpose

Assist the school principal with the overall administration of the instructional program and campus level operations. Direct and manage assigned areas of instructional program and campus operations. Oversee assigned student activities, curriculum areas, and services.

Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Management
  • Communicates and promotes, in an enabling and supportive manner, high expectations for staff and students.
  • Collaborates with faculty/staff in identifying, defining and solving instructional problems. Involves support staff and encourages campus instructional staff to develop innovative programs which improve instruction. Provides instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals.
  • Plans or assists in implementing evaluation models to measure the effectiveness of instructional programs. Evaluates and recommends improvement in the purpose, design and implementation of the instructional program as well as other support programs related to the mission of the school.
  • Participates in scheduling and directing school resources to develop a learning environment (curricular, co‑curricular, extra‑curricular) that enhances the academic, physical, social and emotional development of all students.
  • Collaborates in curriculum development, implementation and oversight. Facilitates or assists with curricular meetings and data analysis.
  • Oversees and supports all district and state‑level assessments.
Organizational Climate
  • Assesses, plans or participates in the improvement of school, district and community climates.
  • Communicates effectively with students, staff, parents and community members. Deals sensitively and fairly with persons from all cultural, economic and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Mediates and facilitates resolution of conflicts in a timely manner.
  • Establishes and maintains an environment that is conducive to positive staff morale and directed towards achievement of the school’s mission. Provides proper recognition of excellence and achievement. Fosters collegiality and team‑building among staff and encourages their active involvement in decision‑making.
School/Organizational Improvement
  • Provides leadership in developing the mission of the school and/or district and articulates a vision toward school improvement. Promotes, communicates, interprets and supervises the implementation of district goals, policies, procedures and directives.
  • Continuously monitors program operations and effects changes based on program evaluation and other relevant information.
  • Oversees and implements district safety protocols and procedures for emergency management.
Student Management
  • Works with faculty and students to develop and implement a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
  • Ensures that school rules are uniformly applied and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Conducts conferences about student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
  • Ensures that students are adequately supervised during non‑instructional periods.
Administration and Facilities Management
  • Oversees campus operations in principal’s absence.
  • Takes a leadership role in planning and scheduling of daily school activities including the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, and extracurricular activity schedules.
  • Requisition s supplies, textbooks, and equipment and monitors and maintains inventory in accordance with district procedures.
  • Coordinates operational support services such as transportation, custodial, and cafeteria to best meet campus needs.
  • Facilitates assigned special program meetings (504, Attendance Review, ARD, LPAC, GPC, etc.) and maintains necessary documentation as assigned. Coordinates relevant communication regarding such meetings for assigned grade levels/students and works with staff to challenge and improve the academic performance of students in special programs.
