Primary Purpose

Direct and manage the agricultural science program for assigned campus. Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications

Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training and work experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI). Demonstrated competency in agricultural science.

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

Knowledge of agricultural science and technology; curriculum and instruction; ability to instruct students and manage their behavior; supervise agricultural field experiences; manage budget and personnel; strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Experience: Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience.

Major Responsibilities and Duties Instructional Strategies
  • Oversee Supervised Agricultural Experience Program (SAEP), including assisting students in selecting and managing projects and supervising school farm.
  • Serve as advisor to local Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter, planning and conducting leadership, citizenship, cooperative, career development, and competitive activities at local, regional, and state level.
  • Assist with planning and delivery of adult education and community programs relating to agricultural science and technology.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students according to IEP guidelines.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans for in-person, distance, and virtual learning that fulfill district curriculum requirements and provide written evidence of preparation; prepare lessons reflecting accommodations for individual differences.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect students’ learning styles and needs;
  • Work with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods per district requirements.
  • Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
  • Use technology to strengthen teaching/learning.
  • Student Growth and Development
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
  • Classroom Management and Organization
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior per Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook.
  • Accompany and supervise students at all off-campus activities (contests, workshops, and field trips) associated with the agricultural science program and FFA.
  • Oversee maintenance of program-related facilities and equipment, including school farm.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
