Position Summary
The Computer Science Teacher & Esports Program Coordinator teaches high school computer science courses aligned to Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and helps students develop strong computational thinking, programming, and problem-solving skills. This position also leads the campus Esports program, supporting student competition, teamwork, digital citizenship, and responsible technology use.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Instruction & Classroom Responsibilities
* Teach assigned computer science courses (e.g., Computer Science I, Computer Science II, Game Programming, Mobile App/Web Development, Cybersecurity-based on campus offerings).
* Design and deliver engaging lessons aligned to TEKS, district curriculum, and campus instructional expectations.
* Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners, including students receiving Special Education services, emergent bilingual students, and advanced learners.
* Use data to monitor progress, provide timely feedback, and adjust instruction.
* Maintain a safe, inclusive classroom culture emphasizing digital citizenship, academic integrity, and responsible use of technology.
* Collaborate with PLC teams, instructional coaches, and administrators on curriculum, pacing, and assessment.
* Communicate regularly with families/guardians regarding student progress and program updates.
Esports Program Coordination
* Serve as the campus Esports sponsor/coach, including organizing tryouts (if applicable), practices, competition schedules, and team meetings.
* Teach and reinforce expectations for sportsmanship, teamwork, online safety, and positive community behavior.
* Coordinate league participation (e.g., UIL, TCSAAL, PlayVS, or other approved leagues), eligibility checks, and tournament logistics.
* Supervise students during practices and competitions, including after school and occasional weekends.
* Support student leadership roles (team captains, shoutcasters, stream/production team, analysts).
* Oversee equipment use, inventory, basic troubleshooting, and lab/arena procedures in coordination with campus/district technology staff.
* Promote student wellness and balanced participation, emphasizing academics-first eligibility.
Program Development & Campus Contributions
* Help build and sustain a CS pathway and student recruitment (courses, clubs, events, showcases).
* Support CTSO/club opportunities (e.g., programming club, cybersecurity club) as assigned.
* Participate in professional development and maintain required certifications.
* Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.
