Primary

Purpose:

Provide oversight and guidance for post-secondary transition planning on secondary campuses, as well as supervision to Work-Based Learning programs and 18+ services in SISD. Monitor and report transition compliance with Federal and State Law and district procedures.

Qualifications:

Master's degree in the field of Special Education

Valid Texas certification/licensure in a special education-related field

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

* Strong knowledge of special education law, compliance, and special education programming.

* Working knowledge of the transition planning process and Work
-Based Learning opportunities for students with disabilities.

* Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

* Familiar with post-secondary college requirements and/or agency support available to students with disabilities.

Experience:

Experience in special education leadership, compliance, and program coordination

Major

Responsibilities and Duties:

* Review IEP Transition Services policies and procedures to ensure effective transition planning and compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

* Attend staff meetings and provide input necessary for effective transition planning; attend ARD/IEP meetings when appropriate.

* Work with staff to ensure that each student of appropriate age has a transition plan in place and that the plan is updated at least annually.

* Ensure compliance activities that are part of the State Performance Plan and the Performance-Based Monitoring Analysis System.

* Initiate and maintain collaboration with employers, local education institutions, and adult service providers to provide current information to students and their families regarding post-secondary options.

* Develop and provide transition-related training to students and families to raise awareness and facilitate successful student outcomes.

* Facilitate referrals to external agencies and/or postsecondary institutions appropriate to students' transition needs.

* Provide in-service training to staff on transition topics and any new changes to the transition planning process.

* Maintain confidentiality.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

Leadership & Supervision:

* Assist in the development and coordination of professional development across the district

* Assist campuses in scheduling, staffing, and problem-solving regarding special education

* Coordinate, supervise, and support related services

* Assist with hiring, onboarding, and professional development

* Serve as a resource to campus administrators and ARD committees

Standard office equipment, including a personal computer and peripherals.

Frequent district wide travel; some regional travel for student services outside of the district; occasional extended hours for meetings and compliance deadlines

Work prolonged and irregular hours as needed, including evenings and weekends; work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

Other Information:

The District contributes $330 per month toward the cost of employee-only health insurance, which is $105 more than the state-required amount of $225/month. All employees in this position receive free treatment at any Next Level Urgent Care.
