Position Overview
We are recruiting a library staff member to assist patrons, manage staff and resources, and provide programming across branches of the Fort Bend County Public Library system.
Responsibilities- Interact with library patrons to assist them in selecting materials and meeting informational needs.
- Search online catalog, databases and print sources to answer complex patron inquiries.
- Direct assigned staff and oversee activities in a branch library or division of the central library unit.
- Maintain statistical records of unit activities and prepare reports.
- Provide guidance and support to staff in the use of bibliographic and computer‑assisted services.
- Assemble and arrange displays and bibliographies of books and other library materials.
- Represent the library system at schools, community groups or professional associations.
- Plan and conduct tours and programs for adults or children.
- Instruct and train new employees; may plan and review the work of other employees.
- Recommend materials for selection and assist in collection development and maintenance.
- Assist with story time, Summer Reading Club, outreach programs and other youth‑related activities in the Youth Services Department.
- Participate in emergency‑management duties during a local state of disaster as directed by County Managers.
- Master’s degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited school (transcripts may be required).
- Knowledge of current library practices and technologies.
- No previous experience required.
- Strong computer, organizational and project‑management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and public‑relations skills.
- Ability to work night and weekend shifts.
Hourly rate: $25.21 – $31.52 (based on qualifications). All full‑time and part‑time employees are members of the Texas County District Retirement System (TCDRS). Full‑time employees also receive a comprehensive benefits package.
