Elementary Principal

Primary Purpose:

Direct and manage the instructional program and supervise operations and personnel at the campus level. Provide leadership to ensure high standards of instructional service. Oversee compliance with district policies, success of instructional programs, and the effective operation of all campus activities.

Qualifications:

Education/Certification:
  • Master's degree in Educational Administration
  • Valid Texas principal certificate or other appropriate Texas certification
  • Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) appraiser
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to evaluate instructional programs and teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to manage budgets and personnel
  • Ability to coordinate campus functions
  • Ability to implement policies and procedures
  • Ability to interpret data
  • Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills Experience:
  • Minimum of two years of classroom teaching experience
  • Experience in instructional leadership roles
Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Instructional Management
  • Monitor instructional and managerial processes to ensure alignment with program outcomes; use findings to take corrective actions.
  • Consult regularly with the campus-level committee regarding planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of the educational program, involving students and community members as appropriate.
  • School/Organizational Climate
  • Provide instructional resources and materials to support staff in achieving instructional goals.
    4. Promote collegiality and collaboration among staff; encourage active participation in decision-making.
  • Maintain effective two-way communication with the superintendent, staff, students, parents, and community.
  • Set and communicate high expectations for staff and student performance; recognize excellence and achievement.
  • Ensure conflicts are resolved effectively and in a timely manner.
  • School/Organizational Improvement
  • Build a shared vision for school improvement and direct planning to meet the campus mission.
  • Apply research-based strategies (e.g., effective schools research) to promote continuous improvement.
  • Establish annual campus performance objectives aligned with the Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR) using the site-based decision-making process.
  • Maintain systems to track and evaluate progress on campus performance objectives. Personnel Management
  • Interview, select, and orient new staff; approve all personnel assigned to the campus. 13. Define expectations for instructional strategies, classroom management, and public communication.
  • Observe staff performance, document observations, and conduct evaluation conferences. 15. Assign and promote staff based on performance and needs.
  • Make employment recommendations to the superintendent including termination, suspension, or nonrenewal.
  • Collaborate with committees to plan professional development aligned to campus goals. 18. Support staff in professional growth planning and implementation.
  • Fiscal, Administrative, and Facilities Management
  • Comply with district, state, and federal policies and regulations.
  • Develop and manage the campus budget based on program needs and enrollment; ensure fiscal accountability.
  • Maintain and file all required physical and digital documentation and reports. 22. Oversee the use and maintenance of campus facilities to ensure a clean, safe, and effective learning environment.
  • Student Management
  • Work with faculty and students to develop and implement a positive student discipline management system.
  • Enforce school rules consistently and equitably in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
  • Conduct conferences with students, parents, and staff regarding academic and behavioral concerns.
  • Professional Growth and Development
  • Participate in professional development activities aligned to job responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate professional, ethical, and responsible behavior; serve as a role model for all staff.
  • School/Community Relations
  • Promote the school's mission and encourage community support for school initiatives.
  • Assess school and community needs and initiate responsive programs or activities.
  • Use effective strategies to foster community and parent involvement.
  • Other duties assigned by the superintendent
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Supervise and evaluate staff assigned to the campus, including assistant principals, teachers, counselors, librarians, instructional aides, clerical staff, and custodians.
