Special Education Teacher


Job Summary: Teach Special Education
Buffalo Upper High is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team for grades 6-8, specializing in Life Skills instruction. The ideal candidate will provide individualized instruction, support social-emotional growth, and help students develop the functional skills necessary for success in school and beyond.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
  • Deliver instruction focused on life skills, including self-care, communication, social skills, and functional academics.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to ensure student success.
  • Monitor and document student progress, adjusting instruction as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive, and structured learning environment.
  • Participate in professional development, team meetings, and school-wide initiatives.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher from a recognized accredited college or university
  • Certified and must have passed valid teaching certificate in Special Education EC-12 (TExES 161) or the new Special Education Specialist EC-12 (TExES 186) certification.
  • Experience teaching students with diverse learning needs in grades 3-5 preferred.
  • Strong understanding of life skills curriculum and functional instruction strategies.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
  • Patience, flexibility, and a passion for empowering students with disabilities.
Compensation:
  • $5,000 Stipend
  • $750 for Masters paid in November
  • $1000 Attendance Bonus ($500 possible in December & $500 possible in June)
  • $225 paid toward TRS health insurance
  • $10,000 Life Insurance Policy at no cost to employee
