Special Education Teacher
Job Summary: Teach Special Education
Buffalo Upper High is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team for grades 6-8, specializing in Life Skills instruction. The ideal candidate will provide individualized instruction, support social-emotional growth, and help students develop the functional skills necessary for success in school and beyond.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
- Deliver instruction focused on life skills, including self-care, communication, social skills, and functional academics.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families to ensure student success.
- Monitor and document student progress, adjusting instruction as needed.
- Maintain a safe, supportive, and structured learning environment.
- Participate in professional development, team meetings, and school-wide initiatives.
- Bachelor's degree or higher from a recognized accredited college or university
- Certified and must have passed valid teaching certificate in Special Education EC-12 (TExES 161) or the new Special Education Specialist EC-12 (TExES 186) certification.
- Experience teaching students with diverse learning needs in grades 3-5 preferred.
- Strong understanding of life skills curriculum and functional instruction strategies.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and collaboration skills.
- Patience, flexibility, and a passion for empowering students with disabilities.
- $5,000 Stipend
- $750 for Masters paid in November
- $1000 Attendance Bonus ($500 possible in December & $500 possible in June)
- $225 paid toward TRS health insurance
- $10,000 Life Insurance Policy at no cost to employee
