Special Education/ Life Skills Functional Academic Teacher -  School Year

LOCATION:

Glen Rose High School

SALARY RANGE:
Minimum - According to District Salary Schedule

LENGTH OF WORK YEAR: 10 months

POSITION SUMMARY:

Provide students and/or special education students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills in functional academics, communication, socialization, and life skills as preparation for future vocational training. Develop or modify curricula and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to student ability levels.

Work in self-contained, team, departmental, or itinerant capacity as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor's degree from accredited college or university

Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level

assigned (Special Education/Content Area)

Teaching experience preferred

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area

Knowledge of Admissions, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process

and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation

Knowledge of community based and supportive prevocational placements and supports preferred

Ability to consult with parents/students regarding post transition planning, vocational assessments, and familiarity with post transition supports systems (Social Security, DRS, Medicaid etc.)

General knowledge of curriculum and instruction

Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior

Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
