Job Description

Job Title: Teacher
Reports to: Principal
School / Department: River Valley Middle School
Exemption Status: Exempt / 187 days
Salary calculation: Commensurate with experience

Primary

Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate in‑person and distance/virtual instruction in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or related training
  • Experience for certification waivers under the District of Innovation Plan (DOI)
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned
  • ESL Certification (if applicable)
  • For Physical Education Teachers:
    Current AED and CPR certificates
Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of the core academic subject area assigned
  • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Experience
  • Student teaching, approved internship, or related work experience
Instructional Strategies
  • Develop and implement lesson plans for in‑person, distance, and virtual learning that fulfill the district’s curriculum program and provide written evidence of preparation.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect students’ learning styles and needs.
  • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students per IEP guidelines.
  • Collaborate with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods per district requirements.
  • Plan and assign work to instructional aides and volunteers and oversee completion.
  • Student Growth and Development
  • Conduct ongoing assessment and provide feedback related to student achievement through formal and informal methods.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned and sponsor approved outside activities.
  • Be a positive role model and support the goals of the campus and school district.
  • Classroom Management and Organization
  • Create an in‑person and virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students’ development.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and handbook.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  • Compile, maintain, and file required reports and records.
  • Communication
  • Be available by phone, email, or video conferencing to district personnel, students, and parents.
  • Communicate with students or parents regularly via phone, video, or approved website.
  • Maintain professional relationships and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Professional Growth and Development
  • Participate in staff development activities to improve job‑related skills.
  • Comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Oversee Tango Flight and manage building responsibilities; shop experience preferred.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities

    Supervise assigned teacher aides.
