SummaryThe Youth Services Librarian for the Celina Public Library demonstrates a strong understanding of modern library practices, embraces innovation, and ensures that youth services are delivered in alignment with the Library’s established goals, policies, and procedures. This position serves as the subject matter expert on services and programming for children and young adults, encompassing both in-person and virtual environments. The Youth Services Librarian also serves as a positive role model for library staff, fostering a collaborative, professional work environment and building strong, effective relationships within the team.

EssentialJob Duties
- Demonstrates the ability to contribute as a positive, productive, and professional member of staff, with a strong commitment to advancing the library’s mission and strategic objectives as established by the Library Management Team.
- Exhibits the capacity to work independently at a high level with minimal supervision.
- Adheres to all Library and City policies, procedures, guidelines, and established standards.
- Executes directives from the Library Management Team promptly, accurately, and effectively.
- Maintains advanced knowledge of contemporary library practices and procedures, including selection best practices, classification methods, reference resources, publishing trends, and key authors and publishers.
- Demonstrates substantial knowledge of child development principles.
- Provides comprehensive reference, bibliographic, and readers’ advisory services to children, young adults, educators, parents, and adults with an interest in youth services through our service desks and other service points.
- Proactively develops, coordinates, and delivers a diverse schedule of engaging programs for youth and parents that promote reading, literacy, and lifelong learning, aligned with the Library’s strategic goals and community needs. Programming includes early literacy story times, core library programs, after-school activities, and special events.
- Oversees program presentations conducted by partners and volunteers, including managing vendor contracts and processing payments.
- Plans and facilitates class visits, library tours, and specialized programs for preschool and school-age audiences in collaboration with the Celina Independent School District.
- Evaluates and selects print, audio, and video materials for acquisition and replacement to maintain a relevant and high-quality collection.
- Performs all assigned duties at circulation and reference desks, including opening and closing procedures, as scheduled.
- Stays current with trends, technologies, and developments in the library profession through ongoing professional reading, continuing education, and active participation in professional organizations.
- Attends workshops, conferences, and training sessions as appropriate.
- Communicates effectively with the Library Director and Library Management Team regarding youth services operations and prepares regular narrative and statistical reports as requested.
- Designs and implements attractive, informative displays that enhance the patron experience and promote library resources.
- Actively identifies and implements strategies to promote youth services and increase community engagement.
- Builds and maintains professional, collaborative relationships with staff, vendors, donors, and other internal and external stakeholders.
- Represents the Library and City in a professional, courteous, and positive manner when interacting with the public.
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of workflows, standards, and applicable laws governing the responsible use of taxpayer funds for library services.
