Provide instructional and language support to bilingual and English Learner (EL) students under the direction of certified teachers. Assist with classroom activities, translation, interpretation, and student supervision to help students achieve academic success while developing English language proficiency.
Qualifications
Education/Certification:
* High school diploma or GED required
* Associate degree or college hours preferred
* Demonstrated proficiency in English and Spanish (reading, writing, and speaking)
* Meet state and district requirements for paraprofessional positions
Special Knowledge/
Skills:
* Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish
* Knowledge of bilingual education and English Learner instructional strategies
* Ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff
* Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
* Basic computer and technology skills
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Support
* Assist teachers in implementing instructional activities for bilingual and English Learner students.
* Provide individual and small-group support to reinforce lessons and concepts.
* Help students understand classroom assignments and directions.
* Support language development in both English and Spanish as directed by the teacher.
* Assist in preparing instructional materials and classroom resources.
Translation and Communication
* Translate written communications, forms, notices, and other materials as needed.
* Serve as an interpreter during parent conferences, meetings, and school events.
* Facilitate communication between school personnel and Spanish-speaking families.
Student Support
* Monitor student progress and report concerns to teachers.
* Assist with classroom management and behavior support.
* Supervise students during classroom activities, lunch, recess, field trips, and other assigned duties.
* Encourage positive student behavior and engagement.
Program Support
* Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and information.
* Assist with state and district documentation requirements related to bilingual and ESL programs.
* Support campus activities and programs involving bilingual students and families.
* Participate in training and professional development as assigned.
Working Conditions
* Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting instructional materials.
* Regular interaction with students, parents, and staff.
* May require occasional evening attendance at parent meetings or school events.
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with district policies and procedures by the campus principal or designated supervisor.
