Primary

Responsibilities

The kindergarten teacher plans and delivers engaging, standards-aligned instruction based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in accordance with Texas Education Code §28.002. Instruction emphasizes foundational reading, language development, mathematics readiness, and social-emotional growth through developmentally appropriate practices, structured routines, and purposeful play-based learning.

Instruction is data-informed and designed to meet the diverse academic, linguistic, and developmental needs of early learners. The teacher implements research-based early childhood instructional strategies, including explicit modeling, guided practice, language-rich interactions, and hands‑on learning experiences that promote student engagement and independence.

The teacher establishes predictable classroom routines and a structured, supportive learning environment that promotes positive behavior, collaboration, and a love of learning. Ongoing assessment practices, including observational and formative assessments, are used to monitor student progress, inform instruction, and provide timely feedback to families.

The teacher participates in Multi‑Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), including early intervention planning and progress monitoring to address student academic and behavioral needs. Collaboration with grade‑level teams, instructional coaches, intervention staff, and campus leadership supports alignment with campus and district goals.

Clear, consistent, and professional communication with parents and guardians is expected to support student development and strengthen home‑school partnerships. The teacher fulfills all professional responsibilities, including lesson planning, supervision duties, documentation, and participation in professional learning aligned with campus priorities. Performance expectations align with the Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T‑TESS) domains.

The teacher maintains a safe and orderly classroom environment consistent with district policies, the Student Code of Conduct, and state safety requirements.
