Summary:
The Department seeks to establish a pool of qualified applicants for potential employment in future Adjunct Instructor positions, at Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU). This is a non-tenure track, part-time (< 50% effort) position, and responsibilities are limited to teaching the courses listed in this posting.
Salary: Compensation is on a per-course basis and based on factors such as academic discipline, faculty credentialing, experience, etc. Minimum pay is commensurate depending on education and experience.
Work Location: In person / Remote / Hybrid (as applicable)
Selected applicants for the current academic year may teach up to 7 undergraduate/graduate level Semester Credit Hours (SCH) in an assigned semester (less than 50% FTE), within the required discipline, as dictated by student demand during the available semester(s). Adjunct positions are temporary appointments, assigned per semester, and on an as-needed basis.
Responsibilities- Teach up to 7 undergraduate/graduate SCH per semester (less than 50% FTE)
- Maintain and manage student records
- Post grades (assignments, mid-term & final) in a timely manner
- Submit attendance reporting
- Mentor and assist students
- Post and maintain office hours for a minimum of three (3) hours per week
- Attend student class orientation as needed (if required by the hiring department)
- Attend clinical/simulation/studio meetings as needed (if required by hiring department)
- Other duties as assigned by the department head
- Undergraduate Level
:
Faculty teaching baccalaureate courses require a doctorate or master’s degree in the teaching discipline or master’s degree with a concentration in the teaching discipline (minimum of 18 graduate SCH in the teaching discipline). - Graduate Level
:
Faculty teaching graduate and post-baccalaureate coursework require an earned doctorate/terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
- Prior teaching experience at the collegiate level.
- Knowledge of online learning management systems.
- Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize tasks.
- Sufficient knowledge of the subject area being taught.
- Knowledge of a variety of teaching methods to provide effective learning experiences.
- Technical competence in appropriate subject matter and the ability to apply this knowledge to the solution of problems.
- Understanding of the learning and development processes of youth and adults.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to communicate effectively and respectfully with students, staff, and community members.
- Ability to use virtual technology and related software to support online teaching (if required by the hiring department).
